The couple who shaped my career.

I decided to become a marriage and family therapist after having the chance to intern with a therapy clinic in college. There was a couple who came in to therapy near the beginning of my internship, and I had the chance to observe their sessions via video recording (with the couples permission, of course).

When the couple first came to therapy, they were entirely disconnected - sitting on opposite sides of the couch from one another, not making eye contact, and speaking to one another in ways I wouldn’t even think to speak to my worst enemy. I remember thinking they didn’t stand a chance. But they kept coming to therapy. Kept showing up. Some weeks were better than others, some sessions they seemed to leave angrier than when they came in, but through it all I started to notice them sitting ever so much closer together on the couch. Week after week I would make note of their body placements. Slowly (oh so slowly) they moved closer together - started turning towards one another instead of away. I remember the first session they made eye contact and shared a genuine smile; I was witnessing a miracle. It was a long process, there was significant hurt between them, but they both desired to feel connected to their partner again - so they kept showing up. This couple proved to me the power of therapy, and it’s why I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist today.

I want you to experience that same healing in your relationships.

If you’re feeling like it would take a miracle to change the dynamics in your relationship with your spouse or family, I’m here to tell you that I see those miracles happen daily. It’s entirely possible to feel connected again, to feel heard again, to enjoy spending time with your family again. It will take work. It will take you showing up even when things are feeling like they’re getting worse instead of better. But over time, you’ll find yourself sitting together with your partner in the middle of the couch. You’ll find your teenager making eye contact with you and smiling. You’ll find your family connected.

So how about me?

I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist here in Jacksonville, FL. As a Marriage and Family Therapist I view “problems” from a family systems perspective, as opposed to viewing them through an individual lens. Whether you’re coming to me for couples, family, or individual therapy, I’m going to work with you on identifying all the factors in your system (family, school, work, etc.) that are contributing to the “problem.” I’m a firm believer that we need to look at everything that makes you you in order to experience lasting change.

I received my undergraduate degree from Florida State University (Go Noles!) and my masters degree from Colorado State University (I sure love our beaches, but I really miss those mountains). I’ve been practicing since 2015 and have loved every moment. In that time, I’ve had extensive training in several areas of specialty, including couples therapy, trauma treatment for adults and children, and attachment-focused parenting.

My favorite part of my job is getting to form close relationships with my clients and getting to watch as they make real and active changes in their relationships. Feeling like you have a positive bond with your therapist is the most important part of having success in therapy (it’s proven in the research!). That’s why I love setting up a consultation call before our first session - it’s important for us to gauge whether we’ll be a good fit for one another.

I’d love to get to know you!
